Life lately: Going out and

Hate to repeat it, but I remain a busy bee and not able to snap outfit pictures as often as I want it. Luckily my beloved Samsung Galaxy is there to keep me company and capture some moments along the way. I couldn't live without anymore, yes, I'm an addict. So just a little sneak peek in my private life.

I have a crazy few days behind me. No kidding, I crossed the country in different directions and even been to Paris and back in one day. We left Saturday morning for Paris. At about 8 we were back in Brussels from where I took the train to the seaside to celebrate the birthday of my bestie. As I was already late, I had to change and do my make-up in the train and go straight to the restaurant and a club afterwards. The whole experience was physically demanding, but I survived!

As my girl wanted us to wear sequined dresses, I got to pull out my silver Motel dress out once more. I have it for a few years now, but never will get tired of it. It's super comfortable and a true eye catcher at the same time. I finally ordered the green version on black Friday, by the way.

Our group got a lot of attention, we looked as a range of disco balls, but the right kind of way. We went to Kitsch Club in Knokke and, as usual, had bad luck, the music was crappy and 95% of the people absolutely ridiculous. If you live in Belgium, you know that Knokke has a certain reputation. You at least expect people to dress okay, but apparently going out in your Ralph Lauren sweater + a wool scarf is the next best thing.

As  we were girls only that night, it was reason enough for every loser out there to approach us. I'm serious though, why a descent guy never approaches you?! But the best next loser, that drank enough to have the courage, is there every five seconds. Luckily my face shows that I'm not at all approachable, but my girlfriends, who are politer, got to deal with them several times. The most annoying thing, that most of these people think I should be obliged to respond when they talk to me or dance with them. Because off course, girls in a club are all waiting for all your unwanted attention. Please! I ignore you if I want you and if you don't fuck off I might hit you.

Don't get me wrong, I love going out, but don't do so very often anymore. All I really need is some good music to dance to, but that's often the first thing that is wrong these days. All in all we had a good laugh and went home after two hours. At least we got to dress up.

Grey faux fur coat and glitter boots

Yes, I have a new faux fur coat in my already pretty large collection. I'm not kidding when I say I need a separate closet for all these coats. Guess I'll be needing to sell some soon.
I got lucky and scored this one at a local thrift store for a ridiculous amount of money and buying a kick ass coat that is also cheap is a real thrill for me. I found this beauty just in time for the cold, it's pretty warm, but light weight at the same time. Perfection, I tell ya!

The soundtrack for that successful day of shopping was off course 'Thrift Shop' by Ryan Lewis and Maclemore.

"I wear your granddad's clothes
I look incredible
I'm in this big ass coat
From that thrift shop down the road."

Checked scarf & black Nike Air Max

As soon as the cold sets in, I prefer to walk around wrapped up in as much layers as possible. I'm particularly happy about wearing my Zara scarf from last Winter. It's a real blanky kind of thing. I even feel somehow protected from the world and all the people around, cause I'm kind of an introvert, to tell you a secret.
I prefer a dry day to a rainy one, don't we all? 'Cause that means I can wear my sneakers. I'm staying true to variations of Nike Air Max models, because I frankly think they're the best thing and quite warm too. Walking on air is literally what it feels like and I can walk so much faster in them (crucial when taking public transport). I got lucky with a new pair, kindly gifted by UK webshop, Mainline Menswear. I actually been wanting a pair for a while, as my previous black pair got some wear and tear already, so the timing couldn't be more right. How fortunate of me to have a size 6, the choice of sneaker models is way bigger if you count the 'men' models. Speaking about choice, the webshop offers some premium brands, so if you're looking for a present for your beau, dad or brother that's a good place to start.

I wanted this particular black pair, as it blends well into my Winter wardrobe, without attracting too much attention. I actually wore them quite a lot to the office, they don't have that 'look at my flashy sneakers' thing going on and that's exactly what I needed. Let's just have a minute to appreciate how great it is to wear sneakers with a dress! Sometimes I slip into a pair of heels at work, but it's nice to know you can walk back home on clouds instead of sore feet.

Halloween 2014

No, I'm not extremely lazy to post my Halloween post just now. It happened so that we celebrated a week later than usual this year, but if it's okay to celebrate Christmas for a whole month, why not enjoy Halloween a bit longer too?!

Third year in a row, I celebrated Halloween at Annebeth's house, I came to love and look forward to this little tradition! My boyfriend joined me for the first time and it was his very first dressed up Halloween ever. I must say that I'm so proud of his costume and hair, as he did it al by himself. He was dressed as Sweeney Todd and I think it turned out damn nice!

I chose to go as Maleficent, she was always an impressive villain and off course Angelina Jolie (HERO) made her even more appealing. I came to the party straight from work and did my make-up on the train. The dude across from me thought I was a fat weirdo for contouring like crazy and I gave him the evil eye. I actually didn't even try on my costume as a whole until the party. Adult life is busy! I won the horns from a fellow blogger Petra (eternal gratitude), I had the top lying around and bought the skirt at a thrift store T2 for 3 euros. I'm so happy with how it turned out as a whole, I'm certainly recycling this look in the future.

We had such a nice time, our group was just a perfect mix and we laughed our asses off. The food was delish, everyone cooked something and the wine was flowing. What else do you need for a good party?

I already look forward to next year and hope we'll keep the tradition going (wink).
Thanks for having us, gurl!

Trying the Khaleesi wig, I kinda dig the platina blond on me!

The theme for the evening was fairy tales, but we broden it out to films and TV-shows too.

Our group for the evening was, from lef to right: Khal Drogo, Daenerys Targaryen, Puss in Boots, a Zombie, Princess Peach, Agent Cooper & The Log Lady (Twin Peaks), Maleficent and Sweeney Todd,

Tell me, did you dress up this year?

In white

The temperatures have finally taken a dive, not that I am happy about it, but after all  it's the natural flow of seasons. At least I can take my faux fur collection out of the closet again. As you might or might not know, I'm quite a coat hoarder and faux fur is strongly present in my wardrobe. I'm crazy about my latest white one and dreaming about the same one in black. This coat is quite an eye-catcher, especially paired with white boots, but I don't mind.
Only problem with a large coat collection, it takes ridiculously a lot of space and although we have a new house,m I still fear there's not enough space for my whole wardrobe. I'll be needing a serious closet clean out soon.

For the rest I'm quite the busy bee and try to save up energy, so I won't get sick again. I do look forward to the weekend, as we will be celebrating Halloween at Annebeth's, which kind of became a yearly tradition. I know it's officially a week too late, but the busy adults that we are, we had to reschedule it, but a lot of fun will be had anyhow! I'm so looking forward to this evening, cause I haven't seen her for six months, due to my new job. We actually just got together to take these pictures last week.

Ultra casual

These pictures are proof of the borderline weather we're experiencing lately. 24°C is pretty much Summer here, and we've been hitting awfully close to this temperature lately, with some super cold days in between. Tomorrow is supposed to be another warmer day. I'm not complaining, but I think my body gets confused and as my hobby is getting sick during the Winter, this weather is a tad dangerous. At least I got to flaunt my new (and very first) Eleven Paris tee. I swayed again for the Mickey and Minnie Mouse, still a kid at heart I guess. The shirt was only 12 euros at Urban Outfitters, scooore!

Mickey is an icon to me, I've had a stuffed mouse I called 'Mickey' since I was three and it's still very dear to me. I also dream to go to Disneyland Paris from the early age. Living so close to it, it's still ridiculous I never got to go, but it's somehow expensive and wasn't a priority, especially when you have to pay for your studies. I hope I get to go in the near future, maybe next year?!
Oh, how I'm bearing my soul here :)

Review: Ushuaya Mechelen

You all know those mails from pr-agencies or company's, asking for a review of their product. Usually the reviews are mostly about the category in which you position yourself as a blogger. Recently, however, I got an interesting invitation in the mail box. I was invited to discover a restaurant called Ushuaya, during a dinner for two. I'm nowhere near a food blogger or critic, for that matter, but several aspects caught my attention.

Ushuaya is lounge-bar and restaurant located in the heart of Mechelen and opened it's doors in August. As the name may suggest, you can expect Asian cuisine, but that's not all! Ushuaya delivers fusion cuisine from around the world
I'm passing through Mechelen by train almost every day on my way to work, so I gladly made a detour, cause frankly, who can say 'no' to a free dinner? I can't! I love food and love discovering and making dishes from different parts of the world.
When we arrived, I was surprised by how large and well decorated the place is. Ushuaya is located in a beautiful house from early 1800, it even has a status of a protected monument. Inside you can find different areas: the grand eating area, a lounge bar and patio with the view onto the main cathedral. The decoration shows some hints of different cultures, but everything goes so well together, without being tacky. Restaurant has a half-open kitchen, which if always great thing for me, you can see with your own eyes if the kitchen is well-kept
Ushuaya also has a separate children's room with supervision where the kids can play, and a monitor to keep an eye on your kid, while you enjoy your romantic dinner.

The menu was pretty elaborate and I always have a hard time choosing. To get an overall idea of the dishes, we decided to get the chef's menu, as it had three main dishes. You get quite a lot of  food for only 32 euros (sans dessert).

The menu consisted of:

- bread basket and olives
-wonton soup
- shrimp in sweet and sour sauce as an appetizer
- tajine, ribs and chicken wraps and fried potatoes as the main dish

By the way, the dishes that you get in the menu are slightly different from time to time. So every time is a small surprise.
Another positive aspect about the menu, they had some nice dessert choices. I got sabayon and the bf got tiramisu. Both were delish!!

Off course you get to know a restaurant when you visit it several times, but it left a good impression on us, so I would definitely go to eat out there again! The menu had a lot to offer and the prices were more than okay! The place was quite when we arrived, but the patio was well packed when we left.

I was also quite surprised of how beautiful the center of Mechelen looks in the evening, it reminded me a bit of Bruges or Lier.
We definitely had a nice evening and left Usuaya stuffed and happy.
I want to thank Dirk from Badass PR for the invitation!
